Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

He's not wrong - I did the training exercises the other night, and getting bored I decided to see what was outside of the asteroid field I found myself in. As I neared the edge of the field, I turned the ship to face backwards and found that I wasn't in an asteroid field, as I had believed, but rather one of the rings around a monsterous, dark gas-giant. The asteroids went on and on for thousands and thousands of miles...

I sat there, around 100kms out, for a good 15 minutes just admiring the view. Mind-boggling indeed

tbh, i reckon you should read the books. Douglas Adams has a great writing style that's really easy to read, and there's so much more detail in the writing too. They're also quite different to the movie, but not badly so. In fact, a lot of the things that were different in the movie came out of the BBC radio plays that Adams also wrote, and again, were quite different to the books. You could track those down too if reading isn't your thing
