How much could you compensate for this by moving the brake balance further to the rear, do you think? Or would that mess up the brakes in other areas?

It would mess up quite a bit imo

Using the handbrake anyway for me wasn't about improving times. It just made it more consistent somehow. I already blasted out 23.27 sc1 without the handbrake first day I tried to make a new laptime but I got bored of LFS again since I got too many other games to play and I have already like 350 000km+ in LFS if you count in hotlapping and not just online laps

wow i thought the developers only removed the hotlaps from lfsworld which were done with handbrake assist for some reason and not remove the handbrake assist completely from open wheels which now eventually makes it harder to get better first split on fbm + bl1 combo , dang

It makes it harder to get it fast but not impossible, my best without and with handbrake is the same IIRC, around 23.25

Geeking the new technique on how to do that first turn, so far the best first split i had was 23 35 and the lap 11 98, pretty darn far to my old 11 91 ;_;
