Forum Redesign - Seven - 03-27-2017

Hey guys,

So I spent a couple hours redesigning the CSS, banner and a couple templates for the forum. As always, suggestions, comments and questions are welcome, no doubt I'll keep tweaking over the coming days. I've been through most of the pages on the default template and everything looks to be reasonable (reasonable) and separates us from the masses by being a bit more color coordinated having not found a template I like.

As always, the previous templates are still available should you want to use something else that I haven't messed will, to do that go to the User CP and on the bottom right you can choose from two more templates, Gold Dust and Kross.

Aaaaaalso... The picture for the banner I made is about 5 years old, if not it ain't far off. If anyone else wants to take a screenshot (hi res 1080p only) and post it below, other people can comment if it'd make a better image or not. Ideally something that features skins from our resident talents and showcases more than just Demo.

I'm using Kross (I think) so not the best person to compare old with new, lol Big Grin

btw. 3d text on the road is wrong, looks really weird... must be more "flat" and probably more trapezoid-shaped so upper/lower bounds cross in the vanishing point.

Try putting carbon at the background, it looks uneventful :-)

Personally I think carbon looks crap on anything other than cars and motorcycles. Virtual carbon (especially like that) makes my eyes go weird after a while too... Might just be me? I was using Kross too but Vim suggested a spruce up of the default theme, so I provided and now prefer it! It's all preference. Tongue

The text in the banner was designed to look less 3D and more like it was bedded in to the road, with the image, hence the shading matches the cars. It's an old as hell image anyway, give me a new one! Big Grin

I've scaled the content down to 25% to fit as much as possible on-screen, but even so, that single line of code goes on and on and on, and it seems to affect the left-hand column as well, for some unknown reason...

I've never been able to find a solution to the problem of auto-scaling images (or in this case, auto-wrapping text) so that they don't extend out past the frames. 

If you could find a way to do this, Seven, you would be my all-time hero! Big Grin

I'm not entirely sure what'd be causing your screen to go like that, but images makes my Kross also have a fit and go off the screen. I've limited the code box to 750px, if you could send me a PM tomorrow after I'm done playing with things, the user CP in Kross also seems to be taking up 50/50 rather than 180px on the left and the rest on the right, could be related.

I'll have a good play around after work, there's a couple things that come to mind. Default theme works fine, afaik... Smile

check computed styles in browser and see what is affecting it... or try universal hacking tool i.e. !important :-)

edit: also if you don't specify pixel width of parent then setting max-width as a percentage of unknown value is simply ignored.

Just popping in, anyone able to upload the whole 2017 only skinpack as images ( png, jpeg?) The skinpack file is taking way too long to download for some reason, it would go up to 50 minutes, then drop and rise back up again. Cheers.

(Might be able to make a coverart for the webpage too Smile
