I have a dynamic ip,it changes a couple of times in a month if i think right.

Re: Prasanth - Reports. - exzibit - 10-02-2014

It's changed every time when you restart router 0.o

Re: Prasanth - Reports. - Seven - 10-02-2014

I'm not entirely sure... Anyone who hosts servers from their PC (like me) sets a static IP themselves, however every time I do a "whatismyip" check, my IP is different each time. How does that work?

Re: Prasanth - Reports. - meddc - 10-02-2014

Your PC (and any other device on your home network) is assigned an IP address on your private network, usually beginning 192.168.x.x. You can make that static yourself (i.e. force your PC to use a given IP address instead of being assigned one by the router). This IP address can only be used by devices on your internal network.

Separately, your broadband router will be assigned an IP address (usually dynamic) by your Internet Service Provider. This is the IP address used to reach you from the wider internet or the IP address other devices on the internet will see. If hosting a server on your PC, you'll need to configure your router to do port forwarding. If your ISP gives your router a dynamic IP, you can't make it static yourself.

Re: Prasanth - Reports. - Seven - 10-03-2014

I have port forwarded, set a static IP on PC and Router yet whatismyip still shows a different IP every time I try that test, I'm not sure you explained why whatismyip does that if I have all static IPs? Tongue

Re: Prasanth - Reports. - meddc - 10-03-2014

Ah. Your broadband router has two ip addresses. One on your local network which is static and one on the internet which I presume is dynamic. Whatismyip is presumably showing you the internet ip, I.e. how you appear to the outside world.

I´m using broadband router as "router" as well, could set it for pass-through too.. but easier to access it when having static local network. Also works more realiable this way. Its always on, so it mostly keeps the same IP for long periods of time. Guess that depends on ISP what their lease time is on DHCP.
