Agreed, Shoutbox would be nice. Have no clue if can be done globally - not against it. Perhaps something for to chew on?
And feel free to investigate the matter if got time to do so.

Now imagine you have 3 forum pages opened at once and every one of them is checking forum engine for updates every second... multiply that by every visitor. Eating resources left and right.
And all of that for the convenience of not having to click single link to get to shoutbox.
If you're keen on having it I'd suggest to put it on unread posts page or some completely separate.

My default page in my bookmarks is this link: http://airattackteam.com/forum/search.php?action=getnew (what you linked) so every time I visit the forums I see the latest posts since my last visit. This page is different for every user though as everyone logs in at separate times so would this actually work?
Also, I understand the resources eater now, perhaps on the portal again at the top and then the external link to a dedicated shoutbox page, as it used to be basically. Would this be more feasible?

JR is right about the resource hogging, but lately visiting the forum during the day I´m either alone or have the company of Google and Yandex Bots. So will this be an issue?

well... IMO unpopularity shouldn't be the reason for being wasteful
But tbh I couldn't care less...
There's plenty of shoutboxes, pick one without planted backdoor, please. ;-)
