You could also point out that its good to have a case that has enough space for the parts. ;D Not everyone understands the importance of power supplies, some people just are looking after watts and price :/ Re: New computer! - Seven - 09-19-2014 Everyone immediately jumps to the conclusion I'm insane for misreading a pricetag- I did do this at around midnight. I am not one to spend over ?50 on a keyboard, never mind ?100. Games such as ETS2, ATS, AC, Sims, DayZ, CS:S for gaming at present - I'd like it to be ready for if I start palying anything more intensive. Program wise, PS CS4, C4D, etc. I'd like a balance between quietness and making the most of money. My current computer is now clocking over 7 years old and runs at around 50db so less than that would be good if possible. Running Minesweeper would be pretty cool too! - I joke, of course. The heaviest game of those is DayZ propably (I didn't like this game, they keep shooting themselves in the foot with the updates....) Also the mouse I picked is apparently one of the best for the price around at the moment. My current computer is now clocking over 7 years old and runs at around 50db so less than that would be good if possible. I bought recently something like that: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Q1900-ITX/ It has 4 cores clocking 2GHz (2,5 in boost) 2 slots for ram, onboard mini-pcie (perfect for wi-fi adapter) and single pcie-2.0 for optional graphic card (although there's one built into cpu) I run my regular desktop i7 at 65% cap, so that's roughly the same what that baby board does, and to be frank don't need any more power for day-to-day operations. If you'd put there more powerfull gpu that should offset any cpu deficiencies. Now the punch line, I bought it as a NAS base, as it draws only 20W out of the wall socket (I measured it myself) and is completely silent. But in the (unfortunate event) of my pc death I have a backup option to fall back as well as fully functional NAS for every day operation. Re: New computer! - Seven - 09-19-2014 The issue is, Fatal I'd need at least 4 USBs in the front and 6 in the back (but the rear is down the the motherboard). 16GB RAM is also a preference as it leaves plenty available for future usage. I think I'll switch some items out based on your list, thanks As I said, I won't be making any purchases for a few months at least, I have to scrape ?3,000 at least for a car before I go buy a new computer unless this one shits itself! Hopefully I'll have a weekend job down soon. Also, is that Intel better than the AMD I had chosen? AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core vs. Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core - EDIT: Nevermind, just had a look based on reviews and AMD don't even come in the top 10! Singe core performance on that Intel is amazing compared to that AMD, the AMD works only on very specific tasks sadly. On all the regular stuff the Intel will destroy that AMD. Also that I5 clocks very well if you ever run out of power . Atleast it should unless you end up with a monday model.. I wouldn't spend 50? more on the case just for USB connections. You can propably buy some usb hubs or ports seperately to the case. Altough from what I've heard the Obsidia has some incredible air flow. Re: New computer! - meddc - 09-19-2014 I bought a new system in January this year from DinoPC who seem to be quite competitive on price. Spec as follows: Intel Core i5 4670K Gigabyte H81M-S2PV Motherboard 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB) Toshiba 128GB SSD 22x DVD?RW DL S-ATA AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB Case: Xigmatek Asgard PSU: 550W Corsair VS No Operating System, monitor, mouse or keyboard. Total cost ?609 inc VAT. I suspect same spec would be cheaper now. Unfortunately I recently had to replace the motherboard as I was getting artefacts via the graphics card in the PCI-E slot. In hindsight, I would probably have spent a little more on a better spec motherboard - this one doesn't have much in the way of spare slots on it. I'm not into serious gaming but it has been able to run everything I've thrown at it very well, including Assetto Corsa (which I seem to be playing a bit more of now multiplayer seems to be a bit better). Re: New computer! - Seven - 09-19-2014 Updated list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vJCvsY Thoughts? Re: New computer! - meddc - 09-19-2014 Looks like a decent system. Presume you plan to overclock it if you're getting a liquid CPU cooler? If not, perhaps you could save a little money there. My 128Gb SSD is only half full with OS and all programs (all my other file storage is on NAS), so contrary to the earlier advice on going big, I think you can save a little there. Probably not much, though, tbh. DDR3 1600 RAM is probably not much faster than the 1333 you've specced, but I obviously went for the faster option there as it isn't much more expensive. Re: New computer! - Seven - 09-19-2014 If it's stable, which I assume it will be I intend to overclock, yes. No doubt there will probably be new hardware out by the time I do have the cash or some hardware in development so we'll just wait and see. Thanks for the help in getting that list ready guys |
